Nature Festival
Taking place over 10 days every May, the Cairngorms Nature Festival (formerly the BIG Weekend) is an annual celebration of the outstanding wildlife and landscapes that can be found in the Cairngorms National Park.
In 2023, the Cairngorms Nature Festival took place from 12 – 21 May. With over 80 incredible events across the Cairngorms National Park there was something for everyone – from families and those who are new to wildlife watching, to the more seasoned nature lover.

What’s it all about?
The Cairngorms Nature Festival brings together people, organisations and businesses who love, support and depend upon the nature and wildlife of the Cairngorms National Park.
Partners put on guided walks, self-led trails, volunteer experiences, family activities, arts and crafts workshops, nature masterclasses, cultural highlights, skills training sessions, adventure activities, behind the scenes tours, special offers, competitions and more… All celebrating the spectacular and unique nature of the Cairngorms.

The Cairngorms Nature Festival covers the whole of the Cairngorms National Park – an area bigger than some countries and home to over a quarter of the rarest species in the UK, with some of the highest mountains, largest forests and purest rivers in Scotland.
Every year there are events happening in local communities and towns as well as others that will allow you to explore the more remote, wilder parts of the Park.

The Cairngorms Nature Festival is one way to connect with the wild side of the Cairngorms, but there are great opportunities all year round to get stuck in!
